Re: Updates?
What was wrong with those two games? Looks like all SNES SRAM problems will be fixed. And at least some sound problems.

Are you updating just MESS or both MAME/MESS?
Maybe you should wait for MAME/MESS v.142 to be released, MAME is already on the third update of v141, and when MAME's full release is updated MESS usually is updated a few days later.

I probably wont fully get around to it until 142 or 143 is out. But waiting on them to release a new version isn't a great idea unless we know it has a specific great improvement. They do a new one nearly every month.

Re: Updates?
I might be going a bit mad. I was playing Chrono Trigger and I forgot to hit ESC + ENTER and closed it down by hitting X. I was pissed, but when I loaded it up, it was properly saved.

Re: Updates?
Clicking X or pressing Alt+F4 (The global windows kill key) or use Task Manger to end task then I'm not sure what will happen. Maybe always save, maybe never, or a little of both.
If you close the webpage first instead of MESS then it will always not save. This can be useful info if you do not want to overwrite your existing save.

Save files are on your local computer so it doesn't really matter how you close it, as long as it closes properly it will write out the SRAM data to a file.
If you use task manager to kill it then it will not write out the file. Same result if you change the webpage, because the emulator is dependent on the plugin in the webpage to stay open.

Re: Updates?
Ok. It has never happened like this before though. If I would shut down the game window instead of ESC + ENTER, I would lose my progress.

Re: Updates?
I don't know then.
I stop playing with the ESC + Enter method approximately 1% of the time. I've never had a missed save happen to me before.

Re: Updates?
Restarting with F5 closes the emulator normally and then reopens it, so the normal save procedure still applies.

Re: Updates?
I almost have AOX2 finished. If you have any feature requests, speak now or forever hold your peace.
Added so far:
- Use the folder %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\arcadeox instead of %temp%\low\arcadeox --- This should fix problems with temp folder and CCleaner. It is the only other folder choice that is available on all os/browsers.
- Fixed delete file bug in FF.
- Delete emulator zip file after download so it does not waste disk space and confuse users.
- Ability for multiple file roms - DOS, larger Amiga games, etc.
- Ability to run single file games - currently always expects exactly 2 - emulator and rom.
- Download progress bar.
- Option to display size of arcadeox folder and warning if it is taking up a large percent of your free space.
- Button to open the arcadeox folder so I don't have to explain how to open a run prompt and enter %temp%\low\arcadeox all the time.
- Fixed bug in FF that caused it to download files that were already in cache.
- I can easily control which websites it runs from - I can give and take away access for it to run on sites like y8.com.
- Ability to load files from any domain - Example emulators could be hosted at sites.google.com and roms at romnation.net. This makes them load faster and cuts down on my server costs. Also has some other benefits.
- Can download larger files - like a 200MB game as long as we find a way to pay for bandwidth and user wants to wait.
- Sandbox is working on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
- Sandbox is kind of working in Google Chrome on Windows XP.
Still left to do:
- A. Add sandbox to Windows XP.
- B. Testing.
- C. Try to fix file corruption problems.
- D. Try to fix file locking problems.
I was thinking about adding an option to have different features available to different websites. So like if it is ran on RU you get everything, but if it is ran on EVG then you can't use multiple file roms like DOS. Something so I can offer Full and Lite versions.
The downside is this upgrade is probably going to be mandatory meaning everyone that already has AOX will be forced to upgrade in order to keep playing. AOX1 would become obsolete/incompatible.
Any more suggestions? Suggestions after it is released will be ignored. This is likely to be the final version.

Seahawk is probably the only one who knows what you're talking about here. Perhaps you should wait until he logs on to see this before you launch the new AOX.

Re: Updates?
@ Konnger, is there antyhing that exists that can detect what specific controller someone is using? I could imaging that this could perhaps be a helpful feature down the road.

3. Right now all games run off of the zipped up ROMs.....does this mean that you delete it after the session is over and redownload each time you play? If yes that seems like a big waste of bandwidth.
9. Celebrate. I always wondered why it redownloaded the .aox files each and every time.
11. I hope you are letting them know in advance? I don't think they'd appreciate you leeching their ROM collections for free.

Re: Updates?
E. Better installer.
@Joz, it is still a ways off. A-E will take a while.
@WB and Joz. Those are emulator features, not AOX.
@WB The only way to 99% stop turbo is to disable controllers in MAME and MESS and allow only keyboards. I own over 5 controllers and none of them have turbo. I don't think turbo buttons are very common. I could maybe detect the name of the controller and then search for it on Amazon and see if it has turbo. That wouldn't mean that they were using turbo, just that they have an option. I'm not sure if that would even be possible or not though and it wouldn't be too easy for me to figure out how to do that - someone like Seahawk, Elrod or Demon-Mask might have an easier time with that.
Having mame/mess report if a controller or keyboard were used might be an interesting statistic though.

@Hawk.
@3 Currently emulator and rom zips are both stored in temp folder. Emulator is unzipped and the emulator zip file is never used again unless the emulator exe disappears or is altered.
The only change in AOX 2 is now after the emulator is unzipped the emulator zip file is deleted. If the emulator exe disapears or is altered then the emulator zip file is redownloaded.
The rom zips stay in arcadeox folder untouched the same in AOX1 and 2. Unless the rom is a multi file DOS game then the rom is treated the same as an emulator file.
Other website owners can optionally choose to have the rom zip be deleted too if they do not want the user to keep a copy of the game. Example that would be good for consoleclassix.com or if we ever wanted to copy them.

I think it would be possible. Have MAME create a save state every X seconds. Rewind loads the previous saves in reverse order. Not every mame/mess game supports saves but several do and in those games it should work.

@9. If that annoys you then you can use IE. Bug does not exist in IE.

Ok, I thought you meant that for the ROMs too. Emulators only = A-ok.

I don't think this is an AOX issue but I'll ask for it anyways.
An easier way for GMs to upload images that appear in the game list.
