Languages are supposed to evolve. It is silly to fight it and claim that people people are stupid when they allow the language to update itself.

"it would be cheaper/funner to ..." makes more sense than "it would be cheaper/more fun to..."

Aluminum is the original name. It was later updated to aluminium because it is technically more accurate. Most of the world adopted the new name but America was already purchasing a lot of the stuff under the original name so we didn't change.

I think we are ready for another combo breaker. I think just as many people that would not vote for her simply because she is a woman would vote for her for the same reasons - a wash.

While I have reached the point of political hopelessness that I could vote for a president full of fail just for curiosities sake, I am not to that point with my teeth and a dentist dentist yet. So Pallin can run for office but she has to stay out of my mouth.

Yes, I think America is more sexist than racist. Woman's sufferage and the rights granted to them have been around for almost 100 years while civil rights were granted 50 years ago. More headway has been made on the issue of race during that time than since the 1910's.

Black men have generally high salaries than white women (Source http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2002/2002170.pdf)
Interestingly though, Asian women make more than black men. First female president of Asian descent perhaps?
In the workplace at least, it still appears that sex is more than a determining factor than race.

So, yes, I think we are much more progressive when it comes to race. Do I think we will eventually have presidents that are female, or non-christian (practicing), and/or homosexuals? Sure, just not yet.

I agree that we are more sexist than racist but I think Hillary and Pallin at least had a shot at making it even if in the end they do not.

We are a long long ways a way from a non-christian or a homosexual president.

I would give homosexuals at least 75 years, Non-Christian...that is a tough one...I'll say 100...first will likely be Jewish.

Hillary I do think was a legit candidate. She has the pedigree, but like I said, we, as a country, aren't there yet.

Palin really has no business being on the national stage, I think her show on Discovery and her kid going on Dancing with the Stars kinda proves it. Grabbing at exposure while she getting her little long than 15 minutes.

Hilary Clinton sabotaged herself by being Bill Clintons wife and be having the personality of a cactus. Not to say she's unelectable, she's certainly qualified and has lots of experience. I just think people aren't ready to elect a strong, tough business woman. Notice how lots of people like Palin because she's supposedly a down to earth mom type? Speaks volumes about how people feel when it comes to female candidates.
That being said I think if Palin got elected instead of Clinton it'd be a big insult. Palin has no business being anywhere near high office, she hasn't earned it. Clinton has put in years and years of work and has practical experience with the office from being first lady.

I'd say those numbers are kinda low. I think it'd be more like two generations before people are tolerant enough for gays or the non christian. That's pretty sad too.

This is why no matter how many letters or e - mails are sent to your local governments, no matter how people protest, things simply do not change.

Honest Politicians {people who make down - to - Earth proposals that actually make sense, like ending the U.S. Federal Reserve} never get 'in power' and also have their fellow 'representatives' doing things like slamming their shoe on the table in the House of Commons while they're trying to make a point during hearings.

They are the ones we want, the ones we need.
But since they're not on the take of the Bankster/N.W.O. machine, and aren't members of Banking families {like most of the ones 'in power', who are mostly C.F.R./I.M.F. members} there is literally zero chance of them being allowed into office.

So while the system would have worked, it's been hijacked by Banking families and their cohorts.
This is why democracy must be modified to prevent this sort of thing from taking place, because as it is it can never work.

I know, right? Totally a good idea. If I were to flee the country, the reasons I choose Cuba are the tropical weather and the fact that the United States can't do a damn thing in Cuba, so they don't have extradition powers to take me back.

If you think totally ignoring common sense and self preservation is a good idea then sure I guess. Btw I don't think the US would bother extraditing a person who willingly went to a hellhole to flee the country. Why would they bother if you choose to be miserable?

In Cuba's defense, the unjust embargo came before the nuclear missiles. I think this is a case of both sides are wrong.

I have a problem with wives and sons being able to run for presidency. Stinks too much of monarchy.

I think our progressiveness fluctuates too much and moves too fast to be able to guess how long it will take before we can elect a non-christian or gay. We are no where close to it now, but that doesn't mean we can't make huge strides in just a decade or two.

Did you know that days prior to the expanding embargo going into effect, Kennedy sent an aide to Cuba to purchase 1000 Petit H Upmann cigars (JFK's favorite brand) for his personal use? The aide returned with 1200.

The embargo was started prior to the missle crisis due to Castro's policy of "nationalizing" US citizens and businesses that were in Cuba. Nationalizing is political talk for kidnapping and stealing.

I wasn't calling you stupid. It was more of a playful jab. That "word" has always bugged me, though, and I couldn't keep myself from saying something about it. Honestly, "funner" sounds like something a 12-year-old would say.

What do you think the language will sound like when those 12 year olds grow up? When I was a kid my teachers spent hours drilling into our head that it was "Tenser and I". Now if you say that you sound pompous.

There is nothing wrong with accepting language change. It is natural and inevitable and to fight it is a waste of your energy. Why would languages evolve for the entire time that they have been spoken and then just stop when you were born? Why should you care if language continues to change?

The reason why your teacher said it is supposed to be more fun instead of funner is because fun was originally only a noun and superlatives are only for adjectives and adverbs. But, as language changed, fun also became an adjective.

Language has already changed so much that you had forgotten fun should only be used as a noun and you were only using "more" out of blind faith in half a rule. Language should not be about blind faith in rules.

I just went back and reread the original sentence.

I used cheap and fun both as nouns. That does make my argument weaker, but I still say it is not wrong simply because your teacher said it was.

Officially both should have used "more" instead of "er". However no one seemed to notice that cheaper was as officially incorrect as funner.

Saying "how fun is this" and "this is so fun" and "it wouldn't have been as fun without you" are all using fun as an adjective and are as officially incorrect as saying funner. Do you have a problem with "that is a fun game"?

If your teach had not drilled you on more fun, would you care? Why?
