Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
Yeah I'm not trying to knock it, if people enjoy it then more power to them. I'm just saying it's undeniably dorky to LARP or play card games like Magic, Yugio or Pokemon.

Yeah in certain places, under certain circumstances, it's not dorky at all.

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I'm afraid it is still dorky, if you need to pretend to be someone else to have good sex, then your a dork.
Awsome song that's on topic:

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I don't RP myself but I really don't think it has to be dorky. Maybe you're thinking too small, you don't have to dress up and pick characters ya know?
Btw wow does that guy look like me. I mean it's so uncanny I almost thought it was me somehow.

I think you're just too narrow minded. Role playing is more like trying a new position. Could you imagine only doing it doggy style every single time for the rest of your life?

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I've known many LARPers (people who dress up as wizards and barbarians and fight with foam weapons) and Punks (people that identify with bands like Red Fang).
The punks are by far more dorky than the LARPers. Yes, LARPers are dorky, but they don't stand a chance in a dork contest against punks.

Well now you have to explain why you think that's true.

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I've never met a punk who was as dorky as a larper:

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
Larpers are just playing a game. Just having fun and goofing off. Same as someone that plays video games, or watches football, or smokes crack* or has any other hobby. Sure some go overboard and are hardcore dorks. But the same can be said about any other hobby.
Every hobby is comprised of mostly normal people that see it as a fun distraction from real life and a few people that develop an unhealthy obsession and lose it. If you are outside of the hobby then you will be more likely to notice the hard core weirdos, not the normal casual users that have an outside life.
The punks I have meet (which is quite a few) hypocritically pride themselves on their individuality while being extreme conformist. They all wear the same uniform. Have the same hair cut. The same ideas. Listen to the same music. Drink the same beer. Have the same posture and poses. They even all have the same dog and dress and it the same. And they're proud of being disrespectful of others.
The are fragile people with no self identity and a classic bully complex (pick on others to avoid confronting their own feelings of inadequacy).
At least dorks have the courage to be themselves even if means they will be unpopular.
*Just joking about the crack.

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I think the reason we see it diferently comes down to our definition of "dork".
The way I see it a typical dork, is very socially awkward, can barely even talk to a girl, let alone ever had a girlfriend, and they are often rude and condescending towards non dorks. They think people who are not on the same level as them in their particular field of dorkyness, are not worth talking to, and that these average people are the ones who are lame.
I give them no credit for the "courage" they have because to them it's not courageous, it's normal.
Not all dorks are like this obviously, but the ones that are will recieve no sympathy from me, because I actually think they, and the way the carry themselves is pathetic.

Re: The complete Zelda II Magic: The Gathering card set
I'll concede that I was comparing the worst of the punks to the best of the dorks. Not exactly fair.
Also, as an introverted computer nerd that likes to play games, my opinion is probably biased.
