@Kong - No way bro. Beards fall in and out of fashion but well groomed beards are never mocked like mullets are. That guy on the left needs to comb his hair though.

I read a study recently that said that beards are more attractive when less men have them. It ebbs and flows but it always remains cool.

I read about the sale of drugs like opium, cocaine, and later heroin being commonplace until the early 1900's.
Opium was being used for a very long time, with 'opium dens' operating in the same way a 'speakeasy' did during alcohol prohibition; the authorities knew of their existence but unless serious trouble arose {such as a murder} no real action was taken against them.

Addiction to opium became a problem for the 'lower classes' {prostitutes and down and outs, although it was common for higher classes to attend opium dens as well where they could be entertained by the prostitutes}, and this led to the development of heroin.
People who got addicted to opium were prescribed heroin the same way heroin addicts are now prescribed {methodone}?.

Then again, heroin got used in many common prescriptions, the most memorable being a 'children's cough syrup' manufactured by Bayer.
Cocaine was also a common ingredient in prescriptions in those days {and even now, in refined forms} and most famously was used in Coca Cola {until white peoples' concerns of blacks' addiction forced the company to remove the ingredient} which led to further addictions.

Addicts of these drugs would routinely go around their hometowns with small wheeled carts {wagons, as we called them} collecting junk which they would sell to scrap dealers to fund their various habits.
This is where the term 'junkie' originated.
