1 Million banned from XboxLive - Page 2

I think the reason bans are so high is because a TON of people played Modern Warfare 2 early and got reviewer copies and stuff.

You don't have to play online to get banned. My old 360 got banned because I played a review copy of Saints Row 2. I wasn't connected to live, but the 360 stores information in it even when offline, and once you connect back to the internet, they see that you played a copy and ban you.

I have not been banned. I'm feeling pretty good about myself.

Not playing Modern Warfare 2 is probably helping. I plan on buying a copy if I ever get the money.

i was just reading the game is apparently banned in russia:
"Every copy of the console version of Modern Warfare 2 has been recalled from stores in Russia due to the content of the “No Russian” mission, better known as the controversial airport massacre level. Likewise, Infinity Ward has released an official patch for the PC and Steam versions of Modern Warfare 2, entirely removing the mission from the game.

Pending validation from the Russian government, the censored console versions of the game are expected to be released within less than a month, with the mission removed.

The game’s content has raised the ire of the Russian gaming public as well as a number of politicians who object to its portrayal of Russia’s armed forces as terrorists who invade the United States and subsequently erect statues of dead terrorists in Washington D.C.

Russian gaming website GotPS3 voiced their anger over the game’s storyline, which they criticized as catering to a primarily American audience with total disregard towards other cultures, especially the Russians, whom the game depicts as terrorists.

As it is, Russian gamers who wish to play the game will have to choose from purchasing the gutted Steam version, ordering the US/EU version of Modern Warfare 2 from eBay, or waiting for an indefinite period of time for the censored version to be released, pending validation.

I don't get the problem. This is a game geared towards the US and it's mostly uber patriot gamers. Also is it really a shock that an american game that focuses on US military uses Russians as bad guys? You can only have so many muslim bad guys before players get tired of it.

Yeah, I wonder if it's just too offensive to Russians to have that happen. Still kind of weird, though.

That's like when LittleBigPlanet got delayed by a week because it had a song in it that could be offensive to Muslims. That seems a little over the top.

I think it's more about being sick of all the cheaters ruining their online service. I don't see why they should care about those people getting banned.

So far I haven't heard of any console bans being wrong. It just seems like people getting karma slapped in the face.

Sure, it's their choice to mod, but it's a bad one when you agree to Microsoft's Terms of Service.

Yeah the point is Microsoft isn't preventing you from using your console or your games, those are yours to use anyway you please. They are preventing you from using their online service. I think that's totally reasonable.
It's like altering your windows OS and trying to connect to a microsoft service, if they notice they will shut you down and probably try to mess with you legally.

OK, so here is the question I pose. My old 360 was modded, got banned, and that's all well and good. But my xbox live arcade games, which I payed good money for, got corrupt one by one, and I couldn't get online to re download them. Also, all my Rock Band 2 songs. Don't you think that's a little messed up? I probably had 50 bucks worth of Rock Band songs I couldn't access because they needed to be re downloaded.

Don't forget that modding your system is to either play pirated games or give an unfair advantage in live games.

I think microsoft should have every right to give the system a RROD to all offenders but they dont'.

If you only got a console ban you shouldn't be having this problem as long as you have another Xbox to d/l them to.
If they also banned your GT/account then you might be screwed. You should try contacting microsoft about it if it won't let you redownload.

I'm not having the problem anymore. Buying another Xbox fixed it. But for a long time I only had the one Xbox, which was banned, and all my data was corrupt. I couldn't download all the stuff I had paid for.

People knowingly broke the TOS and they have to pay the price they agreed to. I'd say Microsoft is actually going easy on these people by not banning their GTs and such as well.

I'm not cold hearted about this really I just agree with the way they're doing it. They're sending a clear message.
I feel bad for people in this situation but they did make their own bed so to speak.

It does suck but like I said above you broke their terms of service and they are right to punish for it. I know you're not one of those guys modding to cheat at games but the punishment has to be consistent and noticable.

microsoft really has nothing to lose by banning them for a few reasons:
1. if they are "harcore" enough gamers to be illegally downloading games and playing them early then, 1,000,000 units banned = 1,000,000 million units sold.
2. this story has been all over the news, right down to the follow-up story about the banned units flodding e-bay. this is much better promotion than any 30 million dollar super bowl ad.
3. by going full blast with this, they are cutting down on the modded systems, including those who cheat, resulting in a more satisfying experience online for those who dont cheat, and i doubt the owners of the banned systems are running to mod their new systems.
it'll be interesting to see the sales chartz for this month, im betting on a huuuuge bump for the 360. as far as microsofts actions on a level of "harshness" dont think think twice about it, microsoft didnt. in fact id go as far as to suggest that microsoft is using the situation as a scapegoat, to put those points i made above into action.

I guess MS just snapped and got sick of hackers tooling around. I'm sure they put up with it for a while, but when they saw the numbers that had got MW2 early, they probably got really pissed off.

The kids with mods just got too casual, and were too comfortable with playing unfairly.

its about time they actually did this. playing halo 3 and seeing someone shooting rockets out of their magnum was so disappointing. things like that made me really start playing single player games only for a while.

Exactamundo! There is not much more disheartening than scoring 35 kills on a team of noobs only to then be stomped because they suddenly became invincible and learned how to fly all the while scoring one hit kills with assult rifles. Epic Fail!
