Nintendo warns against youngsters playing its upcoming 3-D system - CNN.com

Apparently Nintendo is now warning people that kids 6 and under should not use the 3D at all and pregnant women and drunks should limit it's use to avoid nausea and possibly seizures. How much you wanna bet almost no one abides by the limited use thing? Also this kinda hurts the all encompassing family aspect huh?

I played it in my dream last night and I didnt like it. I was at a walmart and they had one on display. That's not stopping me my pre order will be made at first oppertunity.

@DB, I doubt it's a serious thing and more just them covering their asses for worst case scenario stuff.

No it's a real issue and even 3D tv companies are making the same warnings, from what I read. I just mentioned it because I read it in the news and I think it might hurt them slightly with the family market. You know how uninformed people love to panic when the mere mention of possible kids health issues comes up, regardless of how remote it may be.

From what I've read it's no more harmful than going to a 3D movie.

This warning is much like the one that Nintendo sticks on their Wii games. Play for awhile, take a break, and repeat. I'm sure little kids would be just fine with the 3D feature, but Nintendo wants to cover their ass! Makes perfect sense to me.

Well you dont go to 3d movies for several hours a day everyday though. If anyone has issues they can just turn off the 3d.

Exactly. It's like how the Wii has games that suggest you take a break after playing for a certain amount of time, how many people actually do that? I just think we'll probably hear about kids straining their eyes or even maybe a new term like 3DStrain.

I just can't wait to try it out to see the 3D effects. It probably will be a good idea to take breaks, but I bet it will be worth it.

The Virtual Boy had a timer. It would pause the game once every 15ish minutes and tell you to take a break.

Now, I want you to do something for me:
Open up the manual to any video game, notice the health and safety warnings. Notice that they are pretty much the same thing as this, in that it warns of nausea and possible seizures. Notice how it recommends taking breaks every so often.

It is a warning just so people are lest apt to sue when their epileptic child plays video games for nine hours straight, and begins having seizures. At least they'd have the defense of "We had warnings in the instruction booklet."

@Kong- A forced timer? Now that's a lame idea that obviously went nowhere.

@DM- Don't patronize me I know full well this kind of warning is nothing new. The point is it's a big enough deal to make it into the news because viewing 3D for an extended amount of time is thought to be bad for you. The goes for movies as well.

Btw correct me if I'm wrong but I think the older seizure warnings are about epilepsy and/or photosensitivity, not just people who might get sick easier like kids, pregnant chicks and drunks.

I know 3D is more apt to cause eye strain when viewed for extended periods of time.

Yeah, the old seizure warnings are more about epilepsy and photosensitivity.

Really though Slowbro looks alright. He's pink, got some seashell monster eating his tail and he's suspiciously cheerful about it. At least he's got some character.

I'm looking forward to the 3DS. I got 350+ saved up and I'm probably going to spend most of it for the 3DS when it comes out. Already a decent list of 3DS games I want.

He's cheery about it because he is stupid and oblivious to the fact that a seashell should not be trying to eat him.
