Hello Everyone

Hey,

I am brand new to the forums and emulation as well. Trying to learn all that I can about emulation and how it works and how I can experience decades of gaming history for the first time.

I'm actually visually impaired, and growing up, I didn't have the opportunity to go to arcades or really play video games at all. Thanks to the progression of technology, however, I am now at point where I can play games to a decent extent and wish to experience everything I missed out on as a kid.

I am struggling though because I am not computer savvy, have no programming experience, and am overwhelmed by the amount of information on emulation and don't really know where to start or how to dive in deeper and handle the more advanced side of emulation. I've certainly been able to download an emulator and a rom, and I was successful at running it, but I've read about compiling and collecting successive updates to stay current with MAME, using certain programs to get all your files in order and see what you still need, installing artwork and bezels, adjusting hlsl settings to get a better or more classic screen aesthetic, editing config files to makes things exactly how you want them, and so much more; and all of that sounds super awesome, but I just don't really know the best way to get started with all that. I tried to just jump in and learn on the fly, but the more I read, the more I don't understand.

So I'm hoping that I can learn a lot from this community and in doing so, I also hope that I can use that acquired knowledge to discover many games for the first time, but also I hope that I can in turn help others who are at a similar level as me.

Anyways, thanks for letting me be apart of this community. I look forward to learning and experiencing new things.
