In the late 80's and early 90's several video games held competitions called "Summer Carnival". In these events gamers would challenge each other at shoot-em-ups for prizes and fame. The games focused on special time attack modes lasting only 2 or 5 minutes long, and the objective was to get the highest score possible. Some games were even developed with only the time attack modes.
Those days are long over, but the challenge lives on.
CARAVAN SHOOTOUT CONTEST
This is an individual contest. Teams are not involved.
The objective is to play the followings on their score attack modes, and to score big:
Final Soldier Special Version - 5 Minutes
Soldier Blade - 5 Minutes
Blade Buster - 5 Minutes
Summer Carnival '92 - Recca - 2 Minutes
The winner is the one whose total combined score on all four games is the highest.
To access the score attack mode:
Final Soldier: Press the SELECT button (spacebar by default) to access the 5 minute challenge.
Soldier Blade: At the title screen press SELECT (spacebar by default) and select the challenge mode. On the next menu press SELECT again to choose 5 minute mode.
Blade Buster: At the title screen press SELECT (spacebar by default) to select 5 minute mode.
Recca: Choose score attack at the title screen. The game time is two minutes.
