Back Again... And Counting?
Hey guys, I'm back... again. Heh, well, I just thought I'd see how this community was doing. I've been registered here for almost 4 years now. Yup, 4 years. In fact, the anniversary is in 5 days.
Now that you look back at some of your old posts, what do you realize? In my opinion, I looked pretty childish in my older posts, and very immature. Well, I was ten...eleven right? Sigh, a lot of stuff has changed, and so has this community. I think my last leave was because of the forum interface. Something as minor as that dragged me away. I really do miss the onvpg site though, do we still have that token/item center... or what ever it's called?
So yeah, I'm browsing around. But the debate section will harbor me for quite a while, and as I get steamed, I'll resort to some games of course.
P.S: I think Kong was the first one who introduced me to Penn and Teller's show, but I didn't really understand it until I was thirteen or so.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Thanks guys! I think this was the last forum where I actually used Fedor. But yeah, of course, this stays.
Also Tenser, a Fedora does not look good on me at all. But not that you're suggesting for me to wear one...

It's been a while but didn't you used to have a stick figure headbanging in your avatar?

Yeah, I believe I did. I was pretty random... and un-straight.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
You could always say homosexual.
But I don't see how it is homosexual...

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Yeah, but no one uses it that way anymore.
It can be very offensive.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Oh that's what he meant? I assumed he meant he was confused about his sexuality before but now he's straight.
@SJB- actually many people still use that and yes it's offensive.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
I use the term that way. So does my brother and his husband.
Point is, it's only offensive to thin skins who are unable to differentiate between contexts.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
No, it's also offensive to homosexuals because it implies that gay is bad or wrong.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
In a way yeah. When gay is used to express something you dislike or something that you think is wrong then it's just as bad. Isn't it funny that straight means good or ok? Maybe it's a coincidence but I doubt it. I'm not saying anyone who uses it is a homophobe. My friends and I do it too but I'm trying to unlearn it. I think it's passive aggressive homophobia and it needs to fall out of usage.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Can we just use gay to mean redundant, stupid, or ill conceived and not also use it to classify homosexuals?

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Gay is to lame as jew is to cheap. Both are slurs. Pretty sure most of you would call foul if someone called me a Jew because I like bargains. What's the difference?

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
@Tenser- No I don't think it's possible. Gay is iconic for homosexuality and using it for "redundant, stupid, or ill conceived" is seen as derogatory.
@Kong- I agree completely, as usual.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
Bad analogy.
When a M. Bison uses his haymaker attack at you call it gay you are accusing the haymaker attack as being lame but not accusing it of being homosexual.
When someone calls you a Jew for being cheap they are accusing you of being a Jew and thus because you are a Jew you are cheap.
That's the difference.

Re: Back Again... And Counting?
They would be accusing me of being cheap like a Jew the same as you are accusing the attack of being lame like a homosexual. Same thing. If one is wrong, both are.
Side note. The word dumb originated the same way. Dumb meant mute - could not talk. People that could not talk were thought to be stupid and so now dumb means stupid. A difference is now days mute people no longer identify with word "dumb" and most people have no idea that it ever was a derogatory term.
