Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.

Nice! And in case you all don't know why those two items are so important, just take a look.
As with anything zombie related, this videos could get messy and are slightly NSFW.

You mean what Joz linked and not the Shaun of the Dead clips right?
I had to go look this up because it didn't make sense. Why would a serious organization waste time and money on something like this? It'd be like telling people to prepare for the rapture, ridiculous. But then I watched an interview from one of the guys behind this campaign and it makes sense. This is just to get attention in case of real emergencies. All the stuff they tell you to do is the same as for natural(real) disasters. I think it's a pretty lame thing to do but I guess if it helps people take this seriously then it can't really hurt.
Btw that's why there's no mention of having a boomstick at the ready. They don't actually have a real plan for zombies, bunch of liars.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
There is only one process by which one can prepare for the zombie apocalypse:
Step 1: Have your boomstick at the ready.
Well, as you can see there is only one step to this process, and it works with 100% accuracy, and cannot be undone by any amount of zombies.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
To be fair even Ash needed a chainsaw arm and some help to deal with the zombies(or deadites if you prefer). So no, a boomstick at the ready is not all that you'll need.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
Ah, the chainsaw arm, I almost forgot about that.
Okay, three steps:
1. Get boomstick ready
2. Lose hand and replace with chainsaw
3. Be Ash

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
Now you're being too literal. My point was you need more than a gun. Like in The Walking Dead they have lots of guns.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
I know you'd need more than a gun. How about this, if it is from an air-born virus, you need a surgical mask.
You need food and water, a good shelter and multiple weapons, as well as knowledge of how to use them.

Don't forget a katana, a knife, an axe, portable telescope, lots of ammunition, and TNT would probably come in handy too.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
In all seriousness if the world was being overrun by zombies what would you be struggling to survive for? I guess you could wait out the decay thing but then what? If most of the world is dead then it's gonna be pretty horrible even if you do survive. I'm not saying you should just off yourself but maybe just take it easy and not worry about preparing.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
I don't know if I'd want to survive a zombie apocalypse.
The obvious downside is;
You have to live with people who know how to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
Yeah and if the movies can be believed the ratio of men to women will be pretty bad. What's the point of surviving if you're just gonna be dealing with a sausage fest?

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
If the zombies are your more commonly imagined slow shuffling variety I wouldn't be hopeless but if they're raging sprinters such as in the Dawn of the Dead remake it would feel like game over trying to keep other people alive.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
That Dead Island game looks like it's gonna be like Dead Rising with some RPG elements tacked on that most people won't even care about, like the story. But the cinematic trailer looks cool.

Although it's not accurate, I read that child zombies will not be in the game. Neither will nighttime.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
The Go-To survival guide for the Zombie Apocalypse is The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. It is an extremely well thought out guide for surviving zombie attacks.
Brooks went on to later write a book called World War Z which is focuses a bit on the zombies, but more about the real world social/political and personal stories during the apocalyse.
Max Brooks is also Mel Brooks' son.

I've read both the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.
I highly recommend WWZ.

Re: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse
WWZ is kind of a mockumentry. Specifically, it is a bunch of different people's accounts of the zombie war. The chapters focus on different times during the war, such as the Great Panic when everything went to hell, to different economic and socio-political situations in the USA and around the world, to defensive and offensive strategies that we used to fight the zombies.
