Before the Nintendo Wii came out, if someone asked what the typical gender of a gamer was, they would think of a guy, maybe overweight playing some bloody action-shooter. Nowadays you can't go more than four feet without hearing anyone like your grandma, mom or sister talking about how much fun they have playing videogames on the Wii. The Wii had a far greater impact than anyone in the gaming industry expected, especially on the female demographic. Women now make up 43% of the gaming population and it is the fastest growing population of purchasers in the videogame industry.

Well this sucks. Pretty soon their going to beat down on our out-of-proportion characters.

I would think virtual women have more "appeal" over virtual men.

Well... considering the fact that my mom offered to buy me a Wii, without me even showing the slightest bit of interest in it at all... yeah, more women are being attracted to video games. If my mom does buy a Wii, I'll happily play with it... if she doesn't... I couldn't care less, I'm very happy with my PS3 and PSP.

Anyways, I was just making a joke that when real women come into gaming we lose our virtual women, which male gamers obviously would see as a good thing.

I've heard similar figures to these in the past, and I frankly don't believe it, I might believe 20% tops.
