"U" or no "u".
Do you spell words like colour, flavour, harbour, neighbour(hood), doughnuts, or savour? With a "u".
I spell it all with "u", as you can see.

Re: "U" or no "u".
Doughnuts is the correct way to spell it, donuts is the dunkin donuts way of spelling it. Also adding a U to words for no real reason is mainly a British thing as far as I know.
In closing I'd like to say,

Re: "U" or no "u".
Donut is an informal spelling of the word. I see that version much more often than doughnut. It's most likely because donut is shorter.
I think that Americans are the only English speakers to omit the extraneous "u". We also spell words like "center" correctly.

More like a French thing I think. Makes sense since the Brits are well known for it too. They're all weirdo Europeans to me.

Considering that Europe was the birthplace of this language we are using right now, would you not say that they are the authority on how this language should be spoken?
What's weird about being right?

I was kidding. Of course I realize that the US is butchering the English language I just don't really care because most of it deserves to be changed anyways.

What did poor old English (not ye Olde English) do to you to bring about such a tongue - lashing?
How is the US butchering English, and why are they more responsible than, say, Canada?
If you are talking about what POP CULTURE and ADVERTISING is doing to English, then perhaps we have some ground to stand on.
How many fingers do you have on your right hand?

Yeah that's what I mean. Like it or not US pop culture and Advertising is a huge part of the world culture. Many people learn poor English from the different types of media.

Re: "U" or no "u".
I definitely do not use the "u." The word that bugs me the most is "armour." I also say "donuts" and not "doughnuts." But thats just the way I are.

Re: "U" or no "u".
sez - spellings the part of english i'm good at! :P
anyway, I, like all straight-thinking/normal people, use the 'u' in words such as 'coloUr'. That is how it is spelled. Also, I'm curious, how do you seemingly omniscient yanks spell the word socks? I once heard you spelled it sox... WHICH WOULD BE WRONG, YES?

It's basically -our in England and -or in the United States.
The only place I see Sox spelled like that is in Boston. (Red Sox)
I'm a Yankees fan BTW.

Yanks is just an affectionate, endearing, patronising and generally condescending term Brits use for all US citizens that didn't have to apply for citizenship.

If we're talking about armour, in the case of a RPG or maybe a FPS game you would want more armour, not less, I definitely want to have
' armour' instead of ' armor'
since I would have one more letter to protect me.
' U' see?

SOME 'Yanks' seem to see themselves as a self-appointed ultimate authority on everything, ( in particular their media certainly does) and, if challenged,
this is backed up on the intellectual level by
circular/selective reasoning, globalizing/redirecting to avoid the issue and if all that fails,
they attack you.
It seems to make sense to them.
