Trolling is bad.

After a week of searching, I have finally found a forum site (other then RU; RU's still my #1) I can be a part of. I spent some days there & everything was okay. But last night - tonight, everything was not okay. There was a person who joined that same site, though he started a thread (his first one) that's very thought provoking, his spelling and grammer was :P, he kept dissing everyone who disagreed with him through trolling. He was a total emo with no respect for the rules of that site & he dissed who tried to make him follow the rules through trolling. It got so bad that he was got kicked out of the site.

Trolling is bad. And for any trolls at RU, you better thank God that you are at RU. If it was any other site, you'll be kicked out just like that person did. The people at RU are more willing to give anyone a second chance then any other forum site. But you can still get kicked out for trolling if you do it too often. So don't troll... ever.

I pray you forgive me, Kong, if I have broken any rules with this post. I'm a bit emo about this subject, & I can't sleep for thinking about it. I seen it all with my own eyes & I just don't want anyone at RU to go through what that person had been through.

I am going to have to side with Dudebro on this one...

I know you mean well but Trolls are just people who like to get on your nerves and don't care, sure RU gives a lot of chances but they should learn.

Hate to break it to you but we've had our share of trolls here since I signed up. They're usually pretty lame and don't get much attention. On other forums I go to they get much worse ones. One forum has had to contact the police for several bad ones. We're lucky here.

This is what I was asking about. You're losing sleep over it? Honestly that's hard for me to believe and it kinda sounds like trolling. Not to accuse you but it's just so unlikely to me.

The person I talked about in the first post make the trolls here seem like true professionals.
If the trolls here get kicked out, then I can only feel sorry for them. I learned to after seeing what that person did.

I think you let this affect you too much. Anyone who decides to troll is warned and if they continue the mods will deal with it. Sure sometimes they give out second chances but that's a good thing. This place is friendly, we don't wanna be too black and white when it comes to people. Besides, when Kong gets mad at a poster he doesn't beat around the bush.

That being said I'm glad you care so much about everyones well being. Just don't let it bother your sleep or other important things.

I didn't read all of this but IMO, best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them. If they don't get a response they lose fuel and go somewhere else.

I will look into adding a feature that lets you hide all posts from individual users so you can ignore people you think are trolls. Anyone like/dislike that idea?

We've banned several people for trolling and just being annoying.

I like the idea too. I'm just glad that no one at RU is as bad as the person I was talking about.

I don't think there is a need to make it sticky.

I can see some downsides to having the ignore feature.
If you are reading a thread and some of the posts are missing then it might be confusing and if you reply and had part of the thread hidden from you then it will probably confusing for everyone else too.

Honestly that would be cool, I would end up reading it anyways though. Granted I am still cheesed about a certain score farmed away from me, and I am aching to delete it.

@Kong I have to agree with you while the ignore is a good and bad idea I think that it would cause more of a problem to have it then not. I think that it should be like what sabby has done in the past they should be warned and then if they do it a mod should just go in there and delete the posts. What I think would be a better way to take care of the issue is more of a three strike rule like they have at jobs.
~Strike one is a warning by the mods.
~Strike two is a week suspension from the site.
~Strike three is a ban from the site.
If they don't get it after the weeks suspension then they will probably never get it.
Thats just my opinion on what could be done in order to stop the trolling and spamming on the site.

We had something like that called Infractions. The mods could give out infractions for anything they thought might deserve it. Depending on the offense the mods could determine how many infractions to give and how long those would last. If someone had 5 or more infractions they were auto banned until enough infractions expired to bring their total under 5 again.

I enjoyed the system a lot, especially when I gave TMT an Infraction.

Oh yeah, I remember that. I got an infraction right after I signed up because the stupid score in one of the games was flashing and not on the screenshot I submitted

Here's a newb question from a Sr. Member, but I really waht to know. How many infractions do I have right now so I'll know to watch what I post?
