World's Worst Film Maker?
On facebook today someone told me they thought that Spike Lee might be the worst film maker ever. I disagree completely, but it gave me this thread idea.
Who do you think is the worst film maker ever?
I imagine a popular opinion will be Uwe Bowl.
I would tell you my opinion, but I have a weird taste in movies where I like really good, artsy, academy award winning movies, and then I also like really bad ridiculous movies. So the worst film maker to me would be someone who makes incredibly average movies.
So who has the worst movie record?

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
Ed Wood.
Don't get me wrong, he's a very interesting, memorable director, but making a movie in a week is not a great accomplishment when it is unwatchable.

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
I don't like Woody allen or Roman Polanski but I think more because of their lifestyle than anything.
Plus most of their movies sucked!

I think it's obvious that Uwe Boll deserves to win this, how many others have online petitions to stop them from making more movies?

Agreed.
I can't comment on Uwe Boll, since I know better than to watch his movies, but Paul Anderson is pretty terrible as well.

Oliver Stone and Michael Moore (Moore is more Science Fiction than documentarian any way).

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
I quite like early Michael Moore. I thought Roger And Me and Bowling For Columbine were both pretty great documentaries. Fahrenheit 9/11 was garbage but, whatever.

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
Moore uses editing tricks. He has no journalistic integrity. It doesn't matter if you are right or wrong if you lie to prove your point.
I was 7 when I saw Full Metal Jacket and Shining.
Dr Strangelove and Eyes Wide Shut sucked.
I couldn't make it through the first 30 minutes of 2001 or Clockwork without falling asleep. I tried several times.
I didn't see his other movies.
When I posted that I thought he had more crappy movies but I just looked him up and he doesn't have that many movies.

That's why I only like Roger and Me and Bowling for Columbine.

I liked both movies a lot but I think FMJ is the better of the two, you should watch it again.

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
I am going to say that a bad director is Brett Ratner.
The only movies that I liked of his was Rush Hour 1 and 2 thats about it.

Those were alright(I like Jacky Chan and Chris Tucker so that influenced me) but anyone could've directed them.

Thats what I am saying tho. Thats the only thing that he gets credit for in my book, just because of luck on those movies.

That's my point exactly. He uses the same techniques in his documentaries that oppressive nations have used in the past in their propanganda films. I agree with TMT that his first couple of films tried to present a bit more balanced perspective, but in recent years it seems he has completely sold out.

I have to disagree there, although in the case of 2001, it's really meant to be seen in a massive IMAX type setting or giant home screen with kickin' sound. It's really supposed to be a sensory overload type of film which IMHO is greatly lost in many home settings. If you ever want to give it another try, I recommend checking out the Blu Ray version.

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
2001 is a great film but can be difficult to understand. I can barely understand it. Ed Wood is generally considered the worst filmaker ever made based on sheer number of bad movies made. I have seen many really bad movies but their directors are so bad they never become famous and are usually discount.

Re: World's Worst Film Maker?
I thought 2001 was not a very good movie. I have friends that say it is a masterpiece, and when I ask my they typically say something about how it was a landmark for the time. And I reply with, "Yeah, but why would I want to watch it in this day and age?"

Exactly, it was okayish in part 2 but nothing happens in part 1, you may as well be looking at photographs and listening to an orchestra.
