Re: E3 2010 - Microsoft
Apparently it hasn't started off very well for Microsoft.
"To say I was disappointed with Kinect would be putting it mildly. After waiting at the Galen Center for a couple of hours, other than the name, Kinect, nothing was revealed except a handful of pre-recorded demos where actors clearly pretended to control the on-screen characters (avatars) with their own body movement. At several points the avatars would move before the actors did, ruining the illusion of a real live demo of Kinect. This body-synch debacle makes Milli Vanilli's legendary lip-synch outrage look tame by comparison. "
"Truly, tonight will live on in our minds right up there with Giant Enemy Crab and Wii Music air-drumming."
E3 2010: IGN Australia Daily Show Report - Games News at IGN
I remember how bad the Wii drumming was 2 years ago -_-;.

Re: E3 2010 - Microsoft
The conference is over. All of my quick notes are below.
(I missed around 30 minutes of the conference)
Partnership with Crytek - Codename Kingdoms
34 million games, 2 billion hours online of Halo games
Halo Reach - September
Pitching Xbox live for a bit
Kinect Intro
Sign in recogizing by camera alone
Controller free menu, use Kinect to select menu, voice commands
Zune hype
Bringing Xbox live to Windows Phone
Video Kinect - video conferencing, connection to windows live network
(Why do people keep announcing video conferencing like it's new?)
ESPN Sports broadcasts over Xbox Live
(The Sports Center hosts came on stage, they were way more natural than the game presenters
Replay support, statistics, interactive trivia without leaving game.
Free for Gold Members
Kinect demos
Kinectimals (Nintentigers!)
Kinect Sports (LOL)
Kinect Joy Ride
(No control of gas pedal/brake?)
Kinect Adventures - Takes pictures, allows sharing to Facebook or whatever
Ubisoft - Yourshape
(I noticed all demos had a half second delay between movement and game response.)
Dance Central - Harmonix with partnership with MTV
(This was the first thing I thought was cool. This is a huge step forward from DDR.)
Kinect release, November 4 in US, 15 launch titles
LucasArts - Star Wars trailer
(Comment from person at the conference: "This footage is not coming out of a 360. You probably can't see on a stream but the models are way too smooth.")
Forza, face tracking, head turning inside car to look out corners and see mirrors, virtual car examination including going inside the car.
Xbox360 slim announced, 250GB, built in wifi, 299$, shipping NOW. Available later this week. They gave away free Xbox360 slims to everyone in audience 0_o;;.
No price on Kinnex.
Conference end.
I will get pics up soon.

That was fake. Pre-recorded. Natal doesn't go from twitching, un-responsive games where your goal is to "move around as much as you can" to something that precise. With not a single glitch. Notice how at the end of the demo, the screen exploded into light?

Oh yeah, the aerobics one was real, where the goal was to move like molasses, and it wasn't even as responsive as the dance one.

Yeah we get it Tails, you don't like Xbox. Why don't you go post in a topic you actually like and quit trolling? It's not funny and it's certainly not lmao funny.

Exactly. I notice Seahawk is the only one to even mention anything but the motion crap. I know everyone loves to crack on Microsoft but you're forgetting something important, no one cares about it. Maybe some people out there do but no here and none of my friends do. It's a gimmick like the Wii controls and it's not a big deal to anyone but the extremely casual gamer, like most Wii fans.

Re: E3 2010 - Microsoft
The slim version certainly looks sleek.
So I mulled over Microsoft's E3 show. I missed around 30 minutes or so I could have missed something big, but I doubt it. When I started they were doing a demo for Gears of War 3, followed by a trailer of Fable 3, and then Halo Reach. After that there were no more games that didn't use Kinect.
Microsoft seems to be more focused on making the Xbox360 more of a media center. In this regard they are having a huge success, they are slowly but surely bringing many services that used to be separate into a single location. It has Netflix streaming, connectivity with a music player, and now live interactive sports broadcast and video conferencing. In my opinion it is now starting to rival a cable box in terms of content and. I don't have a cable box, and I can definitely see myself not needing one if I ever got a 360. Remember that all of these services are included if you get a gold account on Xbox Live.
In the games world, I was definitely not impressed. On the games side their show felt pretty unsatisfactory. The Kinect device is very questionable at this point:
1) There was a half second delay between player movement and game response. And the games shown were certainly not fast paced.
2) These games so far are simply Wii knockoffs that Nintendo was criticized for a few years ago.
3) Still no price info or game support aside from these demos.
Combined with yesterday's faked Kinect demos, this conference certainly reminds me of Nintendo's Wii Music air drumming lame fest in 2008.

Re: E3 2010 - Microsoft
These motion controls are just an attempt to get fans from Wii. Same with retarded cutesy looking avatars and other features. Blame all those casual Wii fans for changing the market, not Microsoft. Not directed at you Seahawk, just saying.

Re: E3 2010 - Microsoft
Ubisoft is definitely putting alot of eggs into the kinetic basket, three quarters of their demo was kinetic games. Then they had a this dance performance with "Micheal Jackson" written on the big screen, no mention what so ever if it was even video game related.
---------- Post added at 01:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:43 AM ----------
Oh yeah and the one demo that was actually working was one where it actually puts your silhoutte up on the screen, don't be fooled into thinking this is kinetic functioning properly, its just projecting the image it see's, not controlling a character.
---------- Post added at 01:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 AM ----------
Also I'm only talking about Kinetic cause I so dearly want to be right about my prediction of it. None of the games shown today interest me. It was all your standard fps, racing games and then the new Raving Rabbits.
