Team Contest VI - Poll

For now on Team Contests will start on the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox"]equinoxs[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice"]solstices[/ame]. That means a new contest approximately every 3 months - 4 a year.

The next Team Contest starts September 23. Just 10 days from now. Get ready!

So it is time to decide what the contest will be. Vote in the poll above - multiple votes are allowed.

Tag Team: Each team divides into pairs and competes for scores. The low scoring pair is eliminated. Last team standing wins.
Clash of the Titans II: After each round the winning team loses a player. The first team to lose all players wins. Just like last time.
Third Place. Compete for the most 3rd place scores. 1st, 2nd and 4th place are worth nothing.
Capture the Flag II: Just like last time, each team picks 10 games. After one week you get a point for each first place score you have in those games. Most points wins.
Elimination II: Just like last time, each team picks a new player each day. The losing player is eliminated. Last team standing wins.
Dodgeball II: Just like last time, pick a game and throw it at somebody. If they beat your score, you are out. If not they are out. Last team standing wins.

Kong, in the past one of the cool things about some Team Contests was that there was a way to hide scores from each other (i.e. Clash of the Titans), but with the My Screens area on each profile, is there a way to still do this? Tournaments are almost useless now because of this. I like this option because it truly makes people play their best without a target score in mind. That helps to separate good scores from people who just have unlimited time to play.

I loved Clash of the titans last time despe the few flaws that happened like Top Gear 3000... I'm still sorry for that btw and my losing my sweet home save. But I absolutely love the idea of this everyone picking a game and it being completed by each team, so this one stands tall above the rest. If I had to have a second choice I'd choose Dodgeball and the other possibilities don't appeal too much to me.

Capture the Flag is in last place, I thought that was a fun one worth doing again.

@WB. That feature will probably be added back one day, but not in time for this contest.

Since the Game Club Challenges is a mastering contest and going on at the same time this is, I had it in mind that this would be a score contest. If the majority disagrees we can change that, but all of the poll options are for high score challenges.

Bummer, but I understand if it can't be done. Can I remove my vote for Clash of the Titans 2 then? I think the most fun part of that was the mystery and not knowing how well you did until the big reveal. I'll have to think about it some more before I vote.

I agree with you on this. Since Game Club Challenges will be going on for awhile, something different for Teams would probably be good.

I think a Tag Team format could be cool if we designed it similar to the Ryder Cup in golf. In that format, players team with multiple partners throughout the competition., not just the same partner.

For example, in one game GOM might pair Tenser/Sabby and Tanc/Dudebro against the competition. In another game, we might pair Dudebro/Tenser and Sabby/Seahawk against assorted opponents.

It's a good way to keep some variety and also allows teams to take on many more games against each other.

I would definately veto Clash as we have already done it. The third place tournament is very intriging to me. For the following reasons.
1. It completely neutralizes EC the Bagel bros.
2. This tournament involves skills other than gaming. Strategy, deception, and risktaking.

Why? We all know that whoever in EC is WB's partner needs to put up around the same scores he does.

I'm going to add/clarify a rule for "Third Place". Only one score per person counts - the top score.

So if Tenser has First and Second place and Winnebagel has third and fourth place and Steven has Fifth place then Steven wins. Because only the top score from each counts.

I thought about making it only one score per team counts but that does not work. It is one per person.

Scores submitted before the contest starts do not count.

This seems to be another contest type that would greatly benefit if the scores (and My Screens) were hidden. If they are not hidden, all someone would have to do is wait to nearly the end, look at the scores, play up until around the 3rd place and submit just before the end.

very true. Unless the scores can be kept secret, this format would not work very well.

The "Third Place" contest seems very similar to the "Capture the Flag" contest, except it is for the third best score. In that case, you are supposed to know who has the flag.

@Kong: The original idea behind "Third Place" was that each score counted. Having only your highest score counts essentially eliminates two people from participating. You also have the fact that it will lead to know one submitting until the very end. If every score counts you can keep playing attempting to bolster your third place score over and over.

@Everyone: To eliminate people from waiting until the last minute we can intiate a random ending time kept secret until the last second.

Interesting prospect. I still am more in favor of Tag Team, but that could make Third Place more interesting if no one knew when it would stop. That would be like hot potato.

If multiple people wait until the last minute (which they will) then strange unexpected things will happen. 5 people submit at once all thinking they ae submitting the winning score but only one of them will.

Tenser's random end time rule should fix that.

Why isn't capture the flag getting any love? I thought it was one of the more solid choices.

I think for me, I just typically hate Capture the Flag in general. I don't like it in video games or in real life. Having said that, when I read the description it sounds kind of cool. I just skipped over it because of the name really.
