Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
The never before released state-side sequel to FFIV (FFIIus) comes out for WiiWare tomorrow for a cool 800 points ($8 U.S.).
I can't wait. Anyone else plan on picking this up as soon as possible?

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
I'll pick it up eventually. I already have a story-heavy RPG (Kingdom Hearts II) to keep me occupied, but when I beat that, probably.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
I have to admit, I'm a little jealous. I know I'll never purchase a Wii, so I hope it will be released in some other format eventually.

You'll like Mega Man 9. I wish they made it more like Mega Man X though.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
This is the only thing from Nintendo that I've been excited about in a while. Hopefully it's as cool as it looks/sounds.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
Okay, FFIV-AY is really cool thus far. Best part is extra downloadable content.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
So far it is very nostalgic. I like that they stayed away from a newer 3d look and stuck with the original sprites.
Word of warning though...there is currently only one downloadable chapter to the tune of 300 addt'l pts, and from what I can gather there will be between 8-10 of these in total in addition to the 800 pt original download.
With that warning out of the way...I think that if it's an extra $30 to get the entire experience, from what I've played thus far, it'll be well worth it. :sk1:

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
So the whole thing is 800 and then 300 for each chapter? I knew there was a catch.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
According to this article:
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years - The Final Fantasy Wiki has more Final Fantasy information than Cid could research
There are a total of 13 chapters, 3 of which were part of the base WiiWare download, and one more that is currently available.
The article offers a bit more clarification than it did earlier in the week when I checked and further says:
Quote:
|
The game has been released as WiiWare, in 9 chapters. The base game (consisting of the Prologue, Ceodore's Chapter, and Kain's Chapter) costs 800 points. The Gathering Chapter and both parts of the Final Chapter are also bundled together for 800 points. The other character chapters cost 300 each.
|
So by my math you're looking at 800 for the base and final chapters = 1600 and 300 for the other 7 Character Chapters (Rydia, Yang, Polom, Edge, Porom, Edward, and the Lunarians) = 2100 pts for a grand total of 3700 pts.
Realistically, they should probably pay me to dl the Edward chapter.
...if you believe the article.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
That seems like a lot of Wii points for one game. I bet plenty of FF fans will d/l the whole thing but I'm gonna wait to see how much you guys like it before I drop 3.7k points on it.
I agree with you on the Edward thing. We always named him Dildo. We never liked Prince Dildo very much.

really? I always heard the whole Bro family were big fans.
Yeah..$37 is pretty steep for a wiiware game...that's why they offer the handy installment plan.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
Firstly, it should be noted that none of the $3 side quests are either mandatory nor have any affect on your game. They are seperate quests from the game that just explain what the other characters were doing up until the time they were introduced. So if you're not a fan of Edward, there's absolutely no reason to buy his side quest.
Also, $37 is still $13 cheaper than I would have paid for the game.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
To be honest, I'm starting to prefer action RPGs to turn-based-RPGs simply because I find them to be more fun. However, I'll probably check this out.

This is all true, but the second 800pts is part of the game, and not an aside.
but still $16 is much less than I would have paid otherwise.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - The After Years
I finished Rydia's $3 add-on side quest. I myself very much enjoyed it and thought it was certainly worth the money. Also, I stated earlier that I thought nothing you did in a side quest mattered but that is incorrect. If you choose to purchase and play a side quest, everything you gain including levels and items will go with that character when he/she's introduced. I think you have to beat the side quest before they're introduced for this to occur.
Here are the general specs so you can decide for yourself, slight spoilers:
