to remake consoles?
so I've been thinking, and I'm wondering if there could be success in all us retro gamers, in the possibillity of making a new nes or a new genesis or... you get my point, because I'm just curious if it could work, I know even sega could do it, and the reason I say that is because in 2004 atari started re-launching it's 2600 or something with like 200 built in games, and atari had huge success here, those things were selling like crazy, so for nintendo it would kind of defeat the purpose of the VC but sega at least could re-release the genesis with built in games, just like atari did, does any of this intrique anyone else, it could be a possiblillity, to re-release intellivision or master system or something, and please no neggetive comments, and I'm not lying about the atari re-release here.

Re: to remake consoles?
no...there is a reason why modern airplanes have jet engines and not based on the wright brother's design. if you want to play retro games, there are plenty of methods to have access to those games. i do enjoy the new consoles and what they are capable of.

Re: to remake consoles?
They've already done this to some extent with the plug-n-play deals. I had a genesis version for awhile; it had six games, including Mean Bean Machine, Kid Chameleon, Sonic (1 or 2, don't remember), Altered Beast, and a couple others.
I enjoyed it for sentimental sake, and it even had the real controller. Only one though, and by necessity it couldn't be two-player.
But I think those things have had their fifteen minutes of fame, and Jim's probably right that methods such as the VC are the projection for the future.

Re: to remake consoles?
He means stopped the purpose. I still like playing my games on the T.V. and with better controls.

Nope I don't get that. Stopped the purpose? You mean they aren't doing what they promised?
Whatever the case is I'm assuming Nintendo is releasing more WiiWare because it's selling better than retro games.

Re: to remake consoles?
i think it would be a good idea too keep producing every system ever (unless of course the companys gone), obviously not on a mass scale but you should be able to order a "new old system". you could get new nintendos up until not that long ago, and maybe you still can, i dont know.
it aint gonna happen, and i doubt id buy one, but it would be neat.

Re: to remake consoles?
I think it makes no sense to remake an old outdated system to resell. How would it work with NES? Will you have to buy games separately? If not how many would be included?
The best solution is emulation. Companies should just sign deals with websites for royalties(small amounts) to host thier games. I know these companies want people to buy thier consoles but they'd make more money and get more exposure with the internet. Also people would love a company that makes it easy to play thier games without spending 250-800 dollars first.

Re: to remake consoles?
You can buy NES, SNES, Genesis, and Atari's brand new.
Example - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Twin_Video_Game_System
The patents on them expired and third party companies make and sell new systems that let you play the original cartridges.
Amazon will reprint single copies of nearly any out of print book. Other industries should do the same. There would not be a huge demand for the service but it would be nearly pure profit. Nintendo is trying to take advantage of this market but could do better. I have heard that Sega Japan beat Nintendo to the punch and runs an online Sega site just like this one.

Re: to remake consoles?
Yeah, I picked up the Flashback 2 myself. Seen it at a garage sale for $15. Too many unreleased games on it not to buy it. The first one isn't bad if you don't have an Atari already.

Re: to remake consoles?
You'd really have to enjoy old arcade style games to enjoy most pre-crash consoles.
