When I saw that release date, I was kind of puzzled as well. Strangly, the more I research this game it seems like this has been in the making for quite some time; August of 2006. No information is available yet on the Square-Enix site. What the HECK is taking so long. Don't they understand how much they are torturing us by doing these cruel things?
The battle system looks like it will take on the classic turn-based style...like all of the other Dragon Warrior/ Dragon Quest titles. I like it.

The storylines are always pretty much the same. You are typically a hero that must save the world. You fight cool monsters, meet cool people along the way, etc. You should be able to just pick it up and give it a go. It just feels more meaningful when you've played previous DW/ DQ titles because there are always classic, original "things" that make you fall back in love with the nostalgic aspect. For example, when I played DQVIII (gosh I love that game) for the PS2 it was VERY exciting to see that Goldman makes his appearance as a monster. I totally didn't expect it and it really surprised me. After the fact, I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised. Goldman was a popular monster from the original Dragon Warrior titles. Seeing original monsters digitally transform over the years in new titles is just awesome!
Anyway, I could talk all day about Dragon Warrior. You shouldn't have any problem playing it though.
