"Gamepad" keys do not work for Star Raiders

Hi,

New to the site. I cannot get the C, V and D keys to function in the Star Raiders game. I assume they are supposed to provide the chart, reverse view and hyperspace functions, but they do nothing. The Enter key starts it, the Z key fires, the arrow keys move around the view, and the number pad keys change the velocity. Why don't C, V and D work?
