I have to go with Blaster Master with Guardian Legend being a close second. I think Blaster Master was more innovative for the time, being able to get in/out of the vehicle as opposed to Guardian Legend going back and forth between space shooter and adventure. Also, the soundtrack for Blaster Master would kind of put it over the top.
