I didn't care for it at first, but I kind of like it the more i play it. In many ways it's much easier. The code limits the number of barrels on the barrel screens, and limits the number of fireballs on the conveyor levels. Same with the springs on that level. There's been a lot of debate, but in some ways, the rivets are harder, I think, though some would say there's really no difference. There are only the 4 boards on every level, and it looks like difficulty caps out after level 5. Most good kill screeners are getting 600k. On Donkey Kong Forum, just the top 14 scores are over 600k. In some ways, that makes it more competitive - you don't have the crazy grouping and point pressing of the DK players who get over 1mil.

Play-wise it's a little different. The hammer sprites seem a little off, as do Pauline's hat, umbrella, and purse. Sometimes you think you're right under the hammer and jump, but you're really not. It's like DK ROM Set 2, in that if you're on a ladder and are touching the girder above, rolling barrels will not descend the ladder onto your head. Most of the other physics - response and jumping - are pretty much the same.
