Reminiscing is what us
old guys do best; I think I live more in the past than the present, to be honest.
As far back as I can remember I've been addicted to video games, even before I really began playing them.
I would be somewhere like a shopping mall with my parents and would see a random game -
I didn't even care what kind of game it was - and immediately wanted to go look at it,
watch it, as though I were looking through a magic window of sorts into a
different world.
I think it's worth mentioning to people born later on that, back in the 70's, the concept of being able to manipulate pixels on a TV screen was mind blowing to us.
Naturally, when I
did get the chance to play a game, I sucked on ice and it was 'Game Over' very quickly, the main reason being lack of hand - eye coordination which I began to develop when my parents bought me an Atari 2600 one year.
I was fairly spoiled as a kid and {over the years} had quite a few games for my Atari 2600 :
Asteroids »
Atari 2600
Berzerk »
Atari 2600
Casino »
Atari 2600
Combat »
Atari 2600

Atari 2600
Yars' Revenge »

That was a trip down memory lane while looking for those .. I got pretty good at some of them, and my hand - eye coordination finally developed enough to be able to play a Coin Op game once in a while.

I'm
still not so good at most of these, but it's a big thrill for me to be able to bask in their glow, the bright splashes of pixelated colors and also to hear those
one - of - a - kind Arcade sounds ..
I know it may sound silly but, often when I'm feeling down and longing for the past when everything was much more simple I visit RetroUprising and give a few of those old games a run in what I like to think of as visiting a giant Arcade.
It doesn't matter to me if I don't even make it past the
first screen; just to see and hear these games is enough to make me happy.
