The forum software is super old and is probably about to become a security risk, just because that is what old popular software normally does. Spam is already growing because vbulletin is dusty. Mobile is taking over the internet and we barely work on a phone.

If we want to keep a forum or social part of the site at all this needs to be upgraded asap. If there's even a hint of it not being secure it will kill any chance we have of retaining new blood.

A few years ago most active forum members submitted scores and played games regularly, myself included. The problem is people get bored of it and move on after a year or two. Also I think RU started to put more emphasis on competitiveness and that drove some people away. That being said it also brought in less casual people who put up awesome scores and gave RU some much needed credibility. I think we dropped the ball on finding a balance with casual and hardcore retro gamers. We need to make things fun again.
I have more to say about helping RU but it's been a long day and I don't wanna think anymore today.
