I'd heard that trope forever so I was expecting the same some sort of drama fest as with Squall in Final Fantasy 8. Cloud is pretty detached sometimes but he's his own mercenary at the start, but he gets emotionally invested pretty quickly. I think Square plays his angst a lot harder in other series he's spotted in (Kingdom Hearts!)
I escaped Midgar. The overworld feels kind of barren but lets see how things unfold going forward.
