To answer question 5. for me, I tried
Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dreams on one of my other laptops at home. It also runs FF 3.5.13 just like the laptop I'd reported earlier. I had to download ArcadeOX onto it to try things out.
Sadly, the result was the same: Error: Game did not load.
