Sometimes things make the jump from 2D to 3D, bitch about it all you guys want but it is going to happen anyway.

A few rabid fanboys of the series complaining is not going to stall or cancel the release of this game, or make it go back into 2D.

Guess what, they may add a character customization feature,

They didn't say the grappling system would change, isn't the actual gameplay more important than the customization?
If the gameplay isn't good, then it won't matter whether or not you can customize your characters.

I didn't say the gameplay itself was dated, just the graphics.

As much as I prefer 2D sprite based graphics over 3D polygonal models, they are trying to market a game to sell as many copies as possible, the majority of the marked nowadays expects 3D, so changing the series to 3D is natural.

From what I can tell the change to 3D will just be superficial anyway, so the graphics may look a bit different while the same gameplay is in place for all we know.
