It's hard to tell from the high score board because the game is time consuming and one wrong move(or random bad luck) will kill your progress.

I just played for about 4 hours. I got the jewel in the 10th floor once but died a minute later. I got over 1,000 3 times and 1,500 once. It is a mix of luck and skill but I can't tell how much of each. When I had my best run - 1,500 gold and lots good items and experience I died because I ran out of food and couldn't find any bread. Kind of a cheap way to go.
