Capture The Flag

Short version of rules: Before March 5th, post 5 score enabled games that you are currently not the champion of. Try to have the most first place scores in all of the posted games at the end of March for a chance to win one of these prizes.

First Place Prize:
Choose one of the following

X-Arcade Tank Stick + Track Ball
1 year subscription to Retro Gamer Magazine
A USB hard drive chocked full of roms and emulators. Plug it in and play.

Prize generously donated by Retro-Daze.org.

Full Version of Rules:

You can track the games and standings on the Flag Leader Board.
Post 5 games in this thread by Midnight Monday March 4th CST.
- All 5 of the games must work in score mode and have a scoring system. The game you choose must be a game that allows score competition here.
- You must post all 5 games at the same time.
- You can not post a exact same game that has already been posted. You may use the same game for a different system.
- You can not have first place in any of the games that you pick.
- If you miss the deadline then you can not enter this contest.
Each of those games will be called a flag. If 10 people enter then there will be 50 flags.
Each person's 5 games will be called a set of flags.
If you have first place in a game then you have captured that flag.
Only scores set between Feb 25 and March 31 will count.
Points will be tallied at the end of the month, Midnight March 31st CST.
Points:
- 1 point for each flag you control.
- 2 bonus points for each of your own flags you control.
- 10 bonus points for each set of flags you control - taking all 5 flags from a single person.
- 5 additional bonus points if you control your own set of 5.
If there is a tie for first place in a game then no one gets credit for controlling the flag. No points will be awarded for that game.
If someone not entered in this contest has first place in a game then no one gets credit for controlling the flag. No points will be awarded for that game.
Whoever has the most flag points wins one of the 3 prizes above plus a badge.
If there is a tie then we will go to sudden death.

i believe it is the same as this one
A 1 terrabyte external harddrive loaded with roms and emulators for all retro systems accessible from a easy to use menu. Plug it into a pc and instantly play nearly any game. Point and Click. No computer experts required.

Would it have Dreamcast, I could never get the emulator to properly compile, and by menu do you mean an .exe, if so, would the individual emulator .exe accessible? Also, would the games only include those which could be found on this site and/or different games?

I just wanted to point out the rule that says you can't be number one on a game you nominate greatly favors a new commer (maybe that's the point of the contest?). If I just joined RU, it would be a lot easier for me to find games that people would find very difficult to beat. Now, not so much.

I thought it would add an extra challenge that would make competition more interesting. It also benefits new comers and slows down people that are supremely good at a single game.

You can't have first in the 5 games that you personally pick. If someone else picks a game you have first in, then your current score will count as long as no one beats it in March.

Example. Barra has first place in Magical Crystals. That means Barra can't select that game. But wolfman did pick that game. Which means if no one beats Barra's current score Barra gets points for that game without doing anything.

Ok, now I'm really confused. So, some players will get a head start because people picked games that they are already #1? What happens when a game is picked where the #1 player isn't playing in the tournament? Do you have to beat their score to capture the flag? If so, then it's possible some flags will never be captured. It seems to me it would be better if all scores on all games started at zero and at the end of March, whoever has the highest score, gets the flag. Like we do for the game of the year contest. It's easy to understand and fair for everyone.

I really hope I'm not coming off as a complainer. I think it's great that we have the opportunity to play for such great prizes. I just want to make sure I understand the rules and am hoping that with such great prizes up for grabs, everyone has a fair shot at winning.

The best strategy is to only pick games that you think you can get first in. If the current high score is the high score at the end of the month then you didn't do a very good job picking your games.

I think 90% of games picked will have their score beaten.
Also probability suggests that elrod will be winning at the start of the contest.

So your saying you do all the work, but get nothing for it. Whats in it for you? Cant see why someone would want to rig something just to get nothing out of it at the end

Anyway it would be easily spotted. Pretty much everyones 5 picks have 5 different champions with the exception of a couple whihc have only 2 of the same person
