Every man knows that the childbirth is coming while their wife is pregnant, it's the endgame of the whole experience, what the whole experience is all about. I will admit that my interpretation of this statement is probably wider than he intended, but I feel yours is far too narrow. We are both missing some vital information though, the context of this statement. What was the actual question? Who was asking the question and what was the tone of the interview? Was it tongue in cheek? We don't know enough to determine his real intention with this statement.

This one here is 100% sexist and even I can't say it's not or imagine any context were it's not sexist.. but.... um... I, uh, er.... agree. (I say with a wince) Now, I've known women who are 100% independent and not hunting husbands. He's speaking in generality, which is a mistake and easy to attack.
I've told every woman I've ever dated that I don't believe in marriage before having sex with them. It's not a good dating strategy!, but fair and honest, and it does get rid of husband hunters PDQ, usually right then and there after a brief argument about the value of marriage in modern society.
Moffat and I share points of view on these sorts of things, maybe because we where both scared by women at an early age. I can't speak for Moffat, and once again in the interest of brutal honesty. I fell in love with a girl when I was 14. The head over heels type. I was a high-school freshman she was 16 and a junior with long wavy brown hair down to her ass. We dated for a few months all the while I kinda knew she was out of my league. I was on cloud 9 and knew I was meant to marry her.( I believed in marriage back then) She called it off, in the nicest manner possible BTW, but it devastated me. I was depressed for a year after that. I was too young to understand or cope with this, and still carry it with me today. I'm sure this shaped my distrusting nature of women and maybe Moffat had a similar experience.
She was my Irene Adler, "The Women!" ....who got away. See I knew I'd be able to get this back to Sherlock somehow!
