Guitar Hero

its a great game and its very addicting if you have played it id like to hear what you think.

I'm a big fan of Guitar Hero. All I had to do was play it once and I was hooked. The song list is terrific and the gameplay is dynamite. It was terrific to be able to take my professional air-guitar career to the next level.

By the same token, I dislike Guitar Hero II. While it does add some great features like playing bass and being able to lefty flip from the Pause menu (I need that), the song selection is rather sub-par in comparison. There's a rumor that the Xbox 360 version will be able to download all of the first game's songs. If that's true, I'll be getting that version for sure (once I get a 360, of course).

well idc what ne1 says, but i still say the greatest music game of all time is Amplitude, i havent played anything that's beat that game yet, however, the guitar hero games come the closest to beating it, but they still havent yet, and personally i thought the GH2 songs were better than the GH songs myself, i like how they threw "Trogdor" into it, lol, diddnt see that comin , so these are my top 3 music games (in this order):

1. Amplitude
2. Guitar Hero 2
3. Guitar Hero

Not everyone can play a real guitar, Revol. That's why I enjoy these games. I've found that people who can really play the guitar either love or hate these games. There's just no in-between for you guitarist-types. :mrgreen:

Only because they're too lazy or impatient to learn how. I may not play the guitar but I do fancy myself a musician (harmonica). I can't bear games that simulate what anyone with a little time could do. This includes all those trick games like SSX Tricky and Skate or Die! (I also snowboard.)

Seriously, unless you're physically handicapped, get off of your lazy ass and go out and get some fresh air or learn an instrument or what ever.

I love playing the guitar (self-taught). Also, skateboarding. I'm working on doing an impossible right now. Some skating games are ok. You can get ideas from them (locations, setups, etc...) but I despise the Guitar hero. I would rather learn the songs on the actual guitar than "play" like I am playing them. Much more rewarding.

I love and hate the game for that reason, Tenser. I suck at real Guitar, yet Guitar hero makes me feel like a Rock God. Its a good feeling, but then I'm ashamed because im just playing a very simplified version of real guitar...Though I'm pretty good with My Saxophone (Coolest Instrument in the Band, in my opinion..the only Non-Nerdy one

)

The fact that you can play the Sax is way cooler than anything you could do on Guitar Hero. I wouldn't feel ashamed, I just think you're better off using that time to improve your ability with the Sax, or to learn a new instrument. Guitar Hero just gives people one more excuse to act like a hermit and never fully experience this glorious gift of life.

If I want to save the princess or let my friend taste cold steel, I'll play a video game. If I want to play some music, I'll pick up one of my mouth harps.

I had Guitar Hero for a two days and could play "No One Knows" by Queens of the Stone Age on Hard mode. You make it seem like, in the same two days time, I could have learned to flawlessly play "No One Knows" on a real guitar. I don't think so. I've taken guitar lessons before and it's not that simple. I'm not saying it's complicated like brain surgery or anything, but it's not something you can learn in a day and sound like a pro.

Video games are about stepping away from reality for a while and pretending to be someone (or something) that you're not. How is pretending to be a rock star any different from pretending to be a dragon slayer? I don't think I could play "Bark at the Moon" to a packed concert venue in real life.

The point I'm trying to make is that you could more rapidly learn to play the guitar, wield a sword, or pilot a giant robot in a video game than you ever could in real life. Plus, you'll probably have more fun doing it in a game, too.

I agree with this one, too. If I have the option of playing a Madden Football game, watching a football game on TV (Those are becoming closer to one in the same), or going out and playing a game of football, no second thoughts, I'll go out and play.

For me it's a tie between playing Madden and playing real football, I play takle (yes i know i spelled that wrong) football every day.
after a few days you get sore and can't play, and then you play Madden so you won't get bored.

So...back to Guitar Hero. I play guitar. I play guitar hero. There are very few similarities.

I love playing Guitar Hero, it is one of my favorite games, however it doesn't stand up to real guitar. They are two very seperate things, both of which I enjoy.

It's apples and oranges, baby. Apples and oranges.

I might also add that, as a rapper, Get On Da Mic is the worst game ever.

You're attempting to reframe the situation. Reframing is a tactic only used by those who know they're either wrong or in the minority, just ask any conservative. First, video games are not about stepping away from reality, they're only meant to be a source of entertainment. The two are quite different. Playing a video game to "step away from reality" is just another form of escapism. Much in the same reasoning why the alcoholic drinks or the drug addict abuses narcotics. Addiction and escapism are two branches of the same tree. I'm entertained by the thought of saving the princess but I don't do this to step away from reality, and I sincerely pity the person who does.

Next, you missed my point. The fact is, if you devoted yourself to playing at a packed concert venue you could. You don't need some game to experience such a thing. Also, there's no way possible you could compare playing a concert on a video game and the real thing as one in the same.

This is a totally different can of worms than what we started with. If you really want to have a discussion/debate on this subject, let's at least do it in another thread if not another forum altogether. However, to put my thoughts in a nutshell, I don't think that Addiction and Escapism are two branches on the same tree. Rather, I see Addiction as the tree itself with many different branches connected to it (i.e. alcohol, drugs, candy, pornography, etc...). Can you become addicted to Escapism? Sure.

I wasn't saying that it was comparable, I was merely saying it would be quicker and easier in a game. However, a video game could become a gateway into seeing a dream like that become a reality. Take the Brothers Chaps from HomestarRunner.com for example; their first pieces of animation were done with Mario Paint for the SNES. From there, their ideas eventually evolved into the phenomenon that is their website. Video games could be the spark that ignites the fire in someone's goals or dreams. However, clearly, this is not always the case.

To an extent, I agree with you. However, I don't see why a video game HAS to be about something you can't or shouldn't do. As long as a game is fun, what does it really matter? I clearly don't ever want to be a surgeon, but I still enjoy playing one in Trauma Center.

I play the drums and the bass guitar, but i still love to kick back and enjoy Guitar Hero, as a matter of fact, i have more fun playing that than the real thing because not all of my friends play instruments, so it gives me and my friends something to do that we can all enjoy and have a good time with.
