Former Olympic fencer Bob Anderson, the man who wielded Darth Vader's light saber, died Sunday at 89, according to the British Academy of Fencing.
|
He passed with very little notice and I think that sucks. Besides being the man behind Darth Vaders light saber in the original trilogy he was also a sword double for Errol Flynn, taught actors to swordfight in Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Three Musketeers, The Mask of Zorro, The Legend of Zorro, Die Another Day and The Parent Trap. More importantly he was the man behind the sword fights in The Princess Bride. He didn't stand in but he taught them how to fight, even left handed!

I don't think he played vader some big dude who played Frankenstein was vader.
I think DB was saying he just did the light saber battles.

Re: dead celebrities
Well technically he did play Vader since a big part of the character was his ability to duel. Imo it's just as important as James Earl Jones doing the voice.

Re: dead celebrities
It's like how they used to make old monster movies. It would take several people to bring a character to life. Now with CGI we lose that collaboration in favor of some techs working on a PC and some emo mediocre actor.

Re: dead celebrities
American singer, Etta James, died today at the age of 73 of leukemia. Known as the Matriarch of R&B, James won 6 Grammys and was a member of the Rock N Roll HOF, Blues HOF and the Grammy HOF. She ranked in Rolling Stone magazine #22 in 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
On a personal note, James' song At Last is on the gf and I's making sweet love playlist.
