| Sega once again prove themselves to be kings of the racing genre with the superb and innovative "Virtua Racing". This was the first racing game to be fully rendered with shaded, filled polygon graphics (the first game to ever be rendered in filled polygons was Atari's incredible 1983 release, "I, Robot").
As well as the sublime graphics and superb playability, Virtua Racing also allowed players to switch camera views to suit their preferred style of play. The game features 3 well designed and varied courses; 'Big Forest', 'Bay Bridge' and 'Acropolis'.
Sega went to General Electric Aerospace (who made the first 3-D simulators for NASA in the 1960s) in 1991-92 for assistance to develop a CG platform architecture for their new experimental 3-D system, which later became known as the Sega Model 1 hardware. Virtua Racer was the game being written to find out how viable hardware 3-D games were, it was never designed to be released, but it was such a success internally they decided to actually release it.
The first AM-2 polygon race game. The game features many epoch-making ideas : changing the point of view freely, feeling the hardness of the steering, the seat interacting with the gravity.
In true Sega fashion, their 'Virtua' prefix was used on a variety of other products such as "Virtua Fighter", "Virtua Cop", "Virtua Striker" and "Virtua Tennis". Rating: Not rated yet Times Played: 328 | - no score - |

| Yuko is just your average everyday attractive teenage schoolgirl, with an average life in an average town. Little does she know that she is the chosen one who will wield the legendary Valis sword and save the inhabitants of a parallel dimension from an evil that threatens their existence. First in a series of rather lame and dated platformers featuring (what else?) another one of those teenage sword-wielding Japanese schoolgirls. I just wish the games were half as good as the concept, which can be seen in the occasional anime-style cinema. It's my understanding that a short-lived anime series followed not long after the release of the original games. Valis - Fantasm Soldier, the one that sets it all up, and the second worst-playing one of the lot - graphics aren't bad, though, and the anime-style cinemas are first-rate. Valis 3, this time you get your pick of three girls and have to face fiercer enemies - the best game in the Genesis series although that's not saying much, requires far too much precision jumping. | Help! The city's being invaded, and we need fighter pilots to take out the attackers. You can have your pick of three different planes, each with its own unique characteristics and capabilities. A top-down shoot 'em up reminiscent of the legendary 1943! Its about as close as you'll get to playing this classic arcade shoot'em up on the Genesis, and highly recommended. | In 2049, the human population of Earth embarks on a migratory voyage to try and colonize other planets. They leave mechanical "orbots" to clean up the mess they made on Earth through littering and pollution. Raster, a high-level orbot who watches Earth through a planetwide computer network, is accidentally attached to a working nuclear missile by a lesser orbot and goes insane, becoming an evil dictator named Warhead. He declares himself ruler of Earth, and begins preparing to execute any humans who dare return to their planet. Enter Vectorman, a humble orbot in charge of cleaning up toxic sludge by simply discharging it into the sun. As he lands on Earth after his last trip, he finds chaos and confusion. Because all the other Orbots are controlled by Warhead, Vectorman takes it upon himself to destroy the errant orbot and restore peace to Earth. Vectorman was considered the answer to Nintendo's Donkey Kong Country at the time, as they both used graphical tricks to look beyond what the consoles could do. | A graphically impressive arcade game with a politically correct plot. Sometime in the near future, Earth has been laid waste by man's pollution. A series of robots have been developed to help clean it up. By a freak series of circumstances, one of these gets hooked up to an old nuclear warhead, develops megalomaia, and, well, you can guess the rest. Vectorman is the game's hero - the pilot of a spacefaring garbage scow who decides to take Warhead the cyber-dictator head-on. The fantastic graphics, almost liquid animation, and driving technosynth score make up for the holes in the plot. Both Vectorman games are must-haves for every Genesis fan. | Vegas Stakes lets gamers try their luck at five different casino games: Blackjack, Slots, Roulette, Craps, and Seven-Card Stud Poker. More than just an ordinary gambling simulation, Vegas Stakes challenges you to earn ten million dollars through shrewd wagering. You'll also have to deal with people looking to sell you items or trying to pickpocket your cash. The game begins in the hotel lobby of the Golden Paradise Hotel and Casino. From there, you'll be able to register your name and call on one of your friends to give you advice, rules of the game(s), and odds. This friend will accompany you throughout the game and offer his or her information whenever you press the Select button. Since you start with $1000, you'll want to ease into the game with smaller bets until you have enough cash to visit another casino. Speaking of which, the five included casinos offer different minimum wagers, from the cheap $1 bets at the Hideaway to $1000 bets at the luxurious Laurel Palace. Yet before you can walk into Laurel Palace, you'll have to first be invited. Only high-rollers need apply! Vegas Stakes supports up to four players for each game except Seven-Card Stud Poker, since the cards cannot be hidden from view. The game also includes battery backup to save four games at once, so you don't have to worry about losing your hard-earned cash once the console is turned off. | Venture is a conversion of the popular arcade game. You control Winky, the heroic adventurer. Your goal is to collect as many treasures as you can which are scattered throughout numerous dungeons. In each dungeon, there are several chambers which each contain a treasure. Armed only with your crossbow, you need to get past the varied creatures which guard the chamber, snag the treasure, and make it out again. When you collect the treasure from each of the chambers in a dungeon, you can then move on to the next, more difficult dungeon. | It's the year 2089 AD, 71 years after the Planet Venus has been made habitable. Long ago Ishtar and Aphrodia fought for dominance of the planet. Now as it seems that history repeats itself, Hound, a rebel biker group, sets out to free the city Io from its suppressor Ishtar. The game does look like a typical strategy game, in which the player moves all units per turn, until a character enters close combat (by moving unto the enemy). Here the character rides on a bike and tries to shoot a set number of enemies within 1 minute while trying to not being hit. For each hit the character receive experience and eventually level ups. | A scrolling shooter. A battle that will either wipe humanity or machines from the universe has begun! The year is 210 SE (Space Era). Humankind has prospered beyond the wildest imagination of the earliest space explorers. Waves of human colonists have advanced to thousands of planets all over the universe. Each colony built is provided with a caretaker computer and equipped with Android Industrial (AI) Drones to control the planet and mine resources. The materials collected are sent back to Earth. Now, something has gone terribly wrong and the caretaker computer of Odin, (planet #0326) has spontaneously reprogrammed itself. Instead of serving humans and sending minerals to Earth, it seems its new mission is to slaughter humans and make minerals of Earth. The corrupted caretaker, calling itself "Mittgard," has declared war on all humanity. His mechanical army of "AI Drones" is headed toward Earth, and he has equipped them with a ray that will render the strategic computers and weapons of the United Earth Army inoperative. As a result, wherever the army has tried to intercept the AI Drones has suffered total defeat. As luck would have it, a xeno-archeology team working on Ragnarok (planet#1562) has just made a most fortuitous find. Among the ruins of an alien civilization, a battle machine has been unearthed. Because of its alien design and construction, this battle machine is not affected by the Mittgard rays. The most fortunate stroke is that it is equipped with a device that allows it to reprogram some AI Drones and use them against Mittgard's forces. After taking possession of the Ragnarok battle machine, The United Earth Army has called on its number one flying ace, YOU, to rid the universe of the menace posed by Mittgard. | Quinn Hart and his partner, Detective Reese of the VICE squad both work to stop the trafficking of illegal substances. But something new has appeared on the scene, a neon gel with great addictive properties. During investigations as to the origin of the gel, Reese mysteriously disappears and leaves Hart without a lead. Time passes and Hart becomes romantically involved with his new partner, Christy, as he continues trying to track down the gel. But Hart is about to get a brand new lead... Vice: Project Doom is a game that features both overhead driving modes and side-scrolling platform adventure sequences. Hart's vehicle can accelerate or slow down and fire his weapon straight ahead. During side-scrolling sequences, Hart can jump, duck, climb or use his selected weapon. Weapons that can be selected include a Katana sword, a pistol and a grenade-type weapon. These weapons feature limited ammunition with the exception of the katana. Power-ups include ammunition, coins, and health. During both of these sequences, Hart must fight and maneuver his way past enemy foes to confront a boss. By destroying the boss and completing the level, Hart progresses and learns a bit more about the origins of the neon gel and what Project Doom is all about. Cinematics dialog between the levels tell the tale in a style similar to that of Ninja Gaiden. Rating: Not rated yet Times Played: 304 | fogelmir 160,900 |
