A combination of Pac-Man and Tetris, Pac-Attack mixes the ghost-gobbling action of the former with the falling block puzzle aspects of the latter. Your job is to maneuver the blocks into lines so they will vanish from the screen. Ghosts also fall from the top of the playfield, getting in the way of the solid lines you are trying to form. Luckily, Pac-Man accompanies the falling blocks from time to time, allowing you to maneuver him into a position to munch the ghosts.

Similar to Tetris, the Normal mode of play in Pac-Attack continues until the blocks and/or ghosts have stacked up to the top of the playfield. Each ghost Pac-Man eats adds a little gold to the Fairy Meter. When the meter is full, a fairy jumps onto the screen and throws a gold dust spell, effectively removing all the ghosts below it. The 2 Player VS Game features head-to-head, split screen action. Here the winner is the player who lasts the longest in two out of three rounds.

In the Puzzle game you complete a level when you have gotten Pac-Man to eat all of the ghosts. If all of the ghosts have not been eaten after a certain number of blocks and ghosts have fallen from the top of the screen, you lose. You can retry each of the 100 levels again and again, and a password feature lets you save your progress.

An enjoyable, albeit lesser-known Pac-Man offshoot, Pac-In-Time is a running, jumping, side-scrolling adventure that gives the venerable pie-shaped character some new abilities, such as swinging on ropes, swimming, and dispatching enemies with fireballs and a hammer. In a nod to the past, Pac-Man must eat a certain number of pellets to get past each of the game's 50-plus levels. Also, Pac can gobble up larger pellets in order to kill ghosts. The sound effects and music are repetitive, but the graphics are colorfully cute and nicely animated.

Pac Man 2: The New Adventures » Genesis
The entire cast of characters of the Pac-Man games star in this side-scroller. It seems that Inky, Binky, Pinky, and Clyde (aka "the ghosts") have teamed up with new ally who could prove to be trouble for Pac-Land. Can Pac-Man and his family take on the newcomer? We'll see!

Definitely a unique approach to the concept. This time around, Pac-Man has a series of quests to complete, and instead of guiding him directly you ask him to move left or right. Depending on his mood he may or may not listen, and you can use a slingshot to get his attention or knock threats out of the way. Nice graphics and great humor.

One of the most popular and influential games of the 1980's, Pac-Man stars a little, yellow dot-muncher who works his way around to clear a maze of the various dots and fruit which inhabit the board.

Pac-Man's goal is continually challenged by four ghosts: The shy blue ghost Bashful (Inky), the trailing red ghost Shadow (Blinky), the fast pink ghost Speedy (Pinky), and the forgetful orange ghost Pokey (Clyde). One touch from any of these ghosts means a loss of life for Pac-Man.

Pac-Man can turn the tables on his pursuers by eating of the four Energizers located within the maze. During this time, the ghosts turn blue, and Pac-Man can eat them for bonus points. This only lasts for a limited amount of time, as the ghost's eyes float back to their center box, and regenerate to chase after Pac-Man again.

Survive a few rounds of game play, and be treated to humorous intermissions between Pac-Man and the ghosts.

Pac-Man
Pac-Man » Coin Op
Pac-Man was, quite literally, conceived at lunchtime. The game's designer, the then twenty-six year old Toru Iwatani, ordered himself a pizza for lunch. He took one slice, and, looking at the rest of the pizza, and Pac-Man was born. The game took 1.5 years to complete and had five people on its team. Pac-Man is the greatest selling arcade game of all time and is arguably also the world's most recognized video-game character of all time. Pac-Man had its own cartoon, lunch box, board game, stickers and hundreds of other products. This was largely due to Pac-Man being the first truly distinctive video-game 'character', and it changed the face of video games forever. Pac-Man was also the first video game to be as equally popular with women as it was with men.

The original Japanese release was called "Puckman" but, due to the West's predilection with changing words to vulgarities by scratching part of the word off (in this case, changing the word 'Puck' to something rather less socially acceptable by scratching off part of the letter 'P'), was changed to 'Pac-Man'. The name Pac-Man is derived from the Japanese slang word 'paku-paku', which in English means 'to eat'.

Pac Man's character is difficult to explain even to the Japanese -- he is an innocent character. He hasn't been educated to discern between good and evil. He acts more like a small child than a grown-up person. Think of him as a child learning in the course of his daily activities. If someone tells him guns are evil, he would be the type to rush out and eat guns. But he would most probably eat any gun, even the pistols of policemen who need them.

It is still regarded as the hallmark of the 'golden age' of video games.

Pac-Man: Pac-Land
Pac-Man: Pac-Land » Nintendo
Pac-Land is a side-scrolling 1-2 player game with a cartoony feel to it. Now equipped with arms, face, and legs, Pac must guide a fairy back to her home in Fairy Land, but this task will not be easy because Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde, and Sue will pursue Pac-Man as he travels through Pac-Land. When he finally transports the fairy back to her home, Pac is given some magic shoes, which will help him get to his own home, where he will be greeted by his family: Ms. Pac-Man, Baby Pac-Man, Chomp Chomp, and Sourpuss.

There are sixteen rounds to complete, with four trips each. During each round, he can grab a power pellet, which cause ghosts to turn blue, allowing Pac-Man to eat them for points. Points are also awarded by collecting fruit that appear, like cherries and strawberries. In some rounds, Pac must use a springboard to jump over a lake. He must also make it to the end of each round before time runs out, otherwise a ghost will chase him.

Pac-Mania is a variation on the game Pac-Man. You need to guide Pac-Man around a maze and eat all of the dots on the board in order to proceed on to the next round. Numerous, multi-colored ghosts also roam the maze trying to stop you. If you eat one of the power pellets in the maze, the ghosts will temporarily turn blue and run from you. Pac-man can earn bonus points by eating the ghosts when they are in this state. The maze is now in 3-D and is larger than screen which will scroll to follow the action. To help get out of tight spots, Pac-Man now has the ability to jump. But be careful, because some of the ghosts have learned this trick as well and you could end up in a mid air collision!

The Arcade No.1 Smash Hit!! Pacman faces his toughest challenge yet in the 3D scrolling playfields of Pacmania. With exciting worlds to discover, secret levels to find and with new super BOUNCE power, PACMAN has to use speed and cunning to outwit those creeps, Clyde, Sue and Funky and get on with the serious business of... eating!!!

An excellent interpretation of the isometric 3-D maze game, which plays pretty well. Looks very old hat though.

You get to choose sides in recreating several of the most famous naval battles in the Pacific theater of World War II. It's United States against Japan, and it's your chance to rewrite history.

One of my all-time favorite WW2 strategy sims. All historians agree that the one thing that stemmed the Japanese tide was the "miracle at Midway" - but what if Japan had won outright the Battle of the Coral Sea days before? What if they had retaken the Philippines in the Battle of Leyte Gulf? What if the last legendary mission of the super battleship Yamato had been successful? You can refight these and other battles controlling either the U.S. or Japanese fleets in this excellent release. It makes a great bookend to Operation Europe.

The sequel to a classic arcade game. More of the same, but with different mazes and a female bit-chomper this time around.

A fairly decent port of the popular arcade classic, but the up-and-down scrolling of the screen gets old fast.
